Our Journey Raising Two Children with Special Needs

This blog chronicles our life raising two children, Nicholas 14, diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome and Weston 17, diagnosed with Autism/Asperger's/ADHD. It's the ups, the downs, the joys, the sorrows and most importantly, the beauty of living a life less perfect, a life more meaningful.

Happy Birthday Pete!

Yesterday was my husband's birthday. I don't know who was more excited, Pete or Nicholas since Nicholas's favorite treat of all time is, of course.....birthday cake.

Pete told Nicholas that he could pick out Daddy's birthday cake this year. Nicholas was very excited to have the honor of picking out such a delightful treat. He took the job very seriously, and gave his choice a lot of thought.

Here's what Nicholas selected:

Leave it to Nicholas to pick out a "genius selection". When I think about it, my husband is very "Shrek-like" in both appearance and demeanor.

Shrek is a very large and quiet ogre. He enjoys the simple things in life and prefers to be left alone. Underneath his mild mannered temperment is a brave and fearless champion who would risk great personal injury on behalf of those he loves.

Since we went out to eat on Mother's Day, Pete decided he wanted to stay home and asked that I make him a special meal. What was this special meal you ask?

A bit of both perhaps?

Nope, my Shrek-like husband chose, of course, the plain and simple....a hamburger!

So, birthday boy Pete had a honkin' hamburg made especially for him.

Followed by a honkin' piece of Shrek cake (on a "Cars" paper plate, no less)!

Happy Birthday dear husband of mine!

Shrek or Vin Diesel?
