Nicholas starts school next week. He will be in the fourth grade and has a new teacher named Mrs. S.
Mrs S called us this week and suggested Nicholas come in to meet her and see his class. She also had some questions for me. So, on Tuesday, Nicholas, Weston and I went to school for a trial run.
Nicholas immediately liked his new teacher. So did I. She is loving, kind and has a relaxed energy. He enjoyed visiting school but quickly became upset as he was not interested in hanging around while I talked to his teacher. He was hungry and worried I think, that he might have to stay. This was actually a good thing, since it enabled his new teacher to understand some of his behavioral challenges and how to address them.
We cut our visit short and Mrs. S and I decided to try again the next day. This time we would bring lunch for Nicholas so that he could eat while Mrs S and I talked.
The next day we tried again. This time we had a good plan and Nicholas was excited to eat lunch with his new teacher. She had cut up some apples and water melon and offered us some orange juice to drink. We had a great visit with an added bonus of a visit from Mrs. D, Nicholas's aide for the last two years.
I am thrilled. Mrs S is a warm and wonderful teacher. She is proactive with lots of great ideas and is very committed to providing a very nurturing environment ideal for promoting learning and growing. Nicholas is very comfortable with the other two children in the class who both enjoy working with Nicholas and building friendships.
It looks like it's going to be a very good year!
