This year it's Weston's turn. Between summer school, fittings for braces and a colonoscopy, he is just about done with teachers and medical professionals.
We have had to forgo our summer vacation this year, thanks to some hefty attorney fees and some necessary home improvement projects.
So, in an effort to create some kind of summer fun for my children, I have taken them on several day trips.
Last week, it was back to Glawstah!
Where Weston fished at Stage Fort Park
While Nicholas played in the sand
It started to get hot so we headed over to Hammond Castle for a closer look.
The castle well hidden behind the trees
The pathway to the castle winds through the woods
It is late afternoon and Weston is losing patience with me
We continue down the path
Until finally, the castle appears
We head around back for a better view
I get closer and look up at the impressive stone work
The view from the back looking toward Gloucester harbor
(where The Perfect Storm sword fishermen steamed out to sea)
Another ocean view from the back of the castle
In the castle grounds are lovely flowers
and interesting doorways
This one hidden underground
We head back up the steps to the front of the castle
Where we see impressive doorways
and the almost hidden front entrance
But it has been a long day and both boys are starting to tire. We purchase a few expensive goodies in the castle gift shop (a collection of metal knights for Weston and a zippered bag for Nick). We head home before our happy adventure turns ugly and leave the indoor exploration for another rainy day.
