Our Journey Raising Two Children with Special Needs

This blog chronicles our life raising two children, Nicholas 14, diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome and Weston 17, diagnosed with Autism/Asperger's/ADHD. It's the ups, the downs, the joys, the sorrows and most importantly, the beauty of living a life less perfect, a life more meaningful.

Scenes from a Chinese Restaurant

Nicholas awoke early on this birthday, eager for his big day to begin.

He was thrilled to look out the window and see lots of light, fluffy snow instead of the heavy rain that was predicted.

He opened his birthday presents and waited anxiously for our dinner arrangements at China Blossom.

The roads were snow-covered and slippery, plows noticeably absent as we made our way slowly to Nick's favorite birthday destination.

Several cars had trouble negotiating the hills and slick surfaces. We saw lots of spin outs and vehicles that had slid off the road.
We considered heading back home.
Pete drove slowly and carefully (which as you know, is very unusual) and we finally arrived safely at our destination.

The snow seemed to deter many of the Saturday patrons. We ate our meal within the silent still of an empty restaurant.

We ordered so many fine and flavorful dishes, I forgot to take photos. Of course, this pleased the ever tolerant Pete, who was happy to finally enjoy a birthday meal in peace.

A very happy birthday boy
